When Walt Disney’s animated feature Peter Pan premiered on February 5, 1953, audiences were delighted to finally see one of Neverland’s most famous inhabitants–Tinker Bell. Until then, Sir James M. Barrie’s prankish pixie had been portrayed on both the stage and silent screen as a darting burst of light. Tinker Bell flew to even greater heights in 1954 as the symbolic hostess of Walt Disney’s weekly television anthology program, and has remained ever present through appearances on film, video, and in the world-wide Disney theme parks. The Walt Disney Gallery is delighted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Tinker Bell’s Disney debut with this shimmering snow globe designed by Disney Artist Chris Schnabel. Peter Pan’s sparkling sprite has landed atop a frosted water lily with a graceful arabesque, dazzling even the fish of the brook with her luminous presence.
